After studying robotics for four years at Bucharest’s Polytechnic University, 24-year-old Andrei Alexandru realised his passions might lie elsewhere.
“In the end, I wasn’t very enthusiastic about robotics and wanted to find work in a different sector,” he says. “I'm a very social person and, when I heard about Regus and its customer service jobs, I thought: ‘This seems to be the trend right now. Maybe this is a job I'd like.’”
Still based in Bucharest, Alexandru’s role as Community Associate in Romania requires him to be the resident admin wizard at the Regus Floreasca International in the capital, Bucharest, setting up the workspace so that tenants have everything they need to get their work done. “We help customers understand their invoices, keep in touch with all the suppliers and help our customers’ businesses,” he says.
And Alexandru certainly gets to make use of his social skills. He plays a large part in creating a friendly business environment, as he’s often the first face people meet when they walk in to the Regus Centre. “The most important part of reception is that it’s the place where you get to communicate with the customers,” he says. “From simple jokes that help us all get through a busy day, to just getting to know everyone.”
He adds: “The most important skill I have developed during my time with Regus is speaking – I’ve learned how to speak to anyone and really understand them. All those interactions with different people – and the same people – makes me happy every day.”
Alexandru emphasises that it’s the people around him who have helped him develop. “All my co-workers are great and I’ve learned a lot from them,” he says. “I think I’ve learned more from my Community Manager than from any of my college teachers!”
And the most challenging part of being in a people-facing role in the heart of a co-working community? “The volume of work,” he says. “Yes, it is fun, but sometimes you just wish you could stop time and help everyone as soon as possible!”
Alexandru also enjoys seeing businesses grow at Regus, and the projects that emerge in the shared working space. “Everyone has a different style of work,” he says “Not everyone can properly work everywhere. When I first came here, I thought that a table and a chair in the office looked great. But now, I know about space arrangement, and how to make an office look fantastic. This is why Regus is so loved by customers.”
Finally, what kind of person makes a good Community Associate at Regus? “Someone who likes meeting new people, and who feels happy by making others happy would definitely thrive in this environment,” says Alexandru.
