Coworking is a modern, flexible way of working and a workspace of choice for freelancers, businesses, and employees alike. However, as with any emerging office trend, there are lots of questions about coworking and how it impacts businesses socially, financially, and culturally.

Here we’ve answered the most common questions about coworking to help you to decide whether it’s the right option for your business.

What is coworking?

Coworking means sharing workspaces with other businesses or organizations in a flexible environment. This is unlike traditional offices, where everyone has a dedicated desk and works for the same business. A coworking space is generally a public or membership-based office where people work as and when they want to.

How much does coworking cost?

Costs vary between different workspaces. Some workspaces allow people to drop in and pay as they go. Others have a set monthly fee that gives access for a certain number of days each week. Rates also vary depending on the location and facilities of each office space. At Regus, our memberships encourage you to work your way, with a flat monthly fee that’s flexible to your changing business needs.

What does coworking membership include?

When you choose Regus as your coworking partner, you get much more than a desk in a shared office. You can use your coworking space to meet clients (one person per session), with a receptionist to greet them. You will also have access to secure WiFi, a scanner, printer, and copier.

Members also enjoy 10% off meeting rooms when booking through the MyRegus app and can use any Regus Business lounge in the world. Plus, our coworking spaces offer hot drinks facilities and places to buy snacks. You can check the facilities of individual locations by visiting each office page.

What are Regus business lounges?

Business lounges are perfect for entrepreneurs or employees who are regularly on the move and need bases to work from in different locations. Sign up for a membership, and you can drop in whenever you like to use the secure WiFi, printer, scanner, or photocopier at any Regus property worldwide.

Where to find coworking spaces

Regus offers coworking spaces worldwide. Click “find a workspace” on our coworking page and search for the town or city you’re interested in to take a look at the options available. All Regus coworking spaces are based in vibrant locations close to the center of activity.

Can I hot desk in different offices?

Setting up in different offices is exactly what Regus’ hot desking plan is designed for. Once you’ve purchased your membership, you can hot desk at any of our thousands of locations across the world, even when traveling. By paying a flat fee, you can access the locations that best suit you at a competitive average price.

Does coworking include an office?

Most coworking plans do not include a personal office, but if you need a private space, we have a range of options available. Our office plan allows members to combine access to a private office with the flexibility of a coworking plan.

Do I need to book a coworking space?

Most of the time you won’t need to book your space in advance. However, we do recommend making a reservation if you want guaranteed access to a workstation. Regus cannot predict demand at each location, so booking in advance is a good idea where possible.

What is a coworking space?

A coworking space is a shared office where visitors drop in to work. They can be found all over the world and are used by freelancers, entrepreneurs, and a range of different businesses. They are usually open plan and include facilities such as office equipment, printers, and copiers.

What are the types of coworking spaces?

Coworking spaces range from small offices with basic facilities to fully serviced spaces with refreshments, receptionists, and mail handling. Some require booking in advance; with others, you can show up and hot desk whenever you need to.

What are the benefits of coworking?

If you’re a freelancer or a small business, you can benefit from a coworking space’s ergonomic office furniture, high-speed internet, printing and scanning facilities, and on-site refreshments. You can also use these shared spaces to network and meet clients or new prospects.

Businesses use coworking office memberships to give their employees the flexibility to work from a central location as and when they need to. Rather than allocating a desk to each employee, businesses can allocate desks on a flexible basis depending on evolving needs. This means businesses can access the office space they need at a lower cost.

As well as the cost savings, shared office spaces are perfect for networking, collaboration, and innovation. They offer flexibility and have been shown to improve employee well-being and productivity.

What is hot desking?

Hot desking is when freelancers or employees use any available desk (with or without booking in advance), rather than having a set desk where they work every day. This way of working helps to reduce the number of unused workstations, helping businesses to save money and encourage greater collaboration between colleagues.

What should I think about when choosing a coworking space?

You should first consider what benefits a coworking space would offer your business. With that knowledge, you can choose a coworking space based on cost, location, and available facilities. You might also want to consider if like-minded individuals and businesses already work in a space and what opportunities this could bring.

Here’s more advice on choosing a coworking space.

What are the benefits of hot desking?

Hot desking saves businesses money because they only need to pay for the number of desks they need, rather than paying for each employee to use a permanent desk. This means there are no empty spaces when employees take vacation, sick leave, and maternity or paternity leave, and it makes working from home a more viable, cost-effective option.

Hot desking also encourages collaboration between like-minded individuals, gives employees greater autonomy and can even help to keep offices tidier.

What is a serviced office space?

Serviced offices are equipped with all the furniture, facilities, and technology businesses need that they can access for a monthly fee. This option allows businesses to set up in a new city easily and quickly without having to make a big upfront investment. A fully staffed reception, cleaning team, and maintenance staff are also on hand to help the businesses using these spaces.

Here are more FAQs on serviced offices.

What makes a great collaboration space?

A great collaboration space is one that combines flexibility with a positive business culture. Finding a space that has the right facilities, equipment, and atmosphere for your business is key to ensuring a successful office move.
