Find out what the life of an Area Manager is like at Regus and discover our secrets for building a thriving business community
“For me, flexible working is about being able to work optimally from any place, at any time, the way you like,” says Clare Nyamasyo, Area Manager in Kenya for Regus.
Based in Nairobi, Nyamasyo is a devoted mother of two, who was attracted to Regus as a result of its global nature, and the chance to work with people from all over the world. “My induction to Regus was done very well, and I understood what really mattered in my role from the onset,” she says. “That helped me progress this far.”
At one point during her tenure, Nyamasyo was responsible for managing a group of Regus centres – everything from their operations and sales, to their profits and losses. These days, as well as managing a team of sales managers, her role as Area Manager is about helping Regus clients find their perfect workplace set-up.
“Providing a solution that meets the needs of a customer makes me feel fulfilled,” she says. “Creating a thriving business community is about keeping customers happy – listening to them and resolving their issues as quickly as possible or keeping them updated if other teams are handling the matter.”
She adds: “This is also one of the most challenging things about my role – we sometimes wish we could get customer issues resolved more quickly, but many of the back office functions are centralised. It requires a focused person who pays attention to every detail and is quick to learn – as changes are constant here.”
What else goes into managing a successful, next-generation co-working hub? “Minimising waste as much as possible,” says Nyamasyo. “Keeping costs down by ensuring clients make timely payments, and making sure teams are properly inducted and trained from the start.”
Finally, how has Nyamasyo’s time working in a management role for Regus shaped her? “I have become a better negotiator and decision maker,” she says.
