Founded in 1974, British Airways is the largest international carrier in the United Kingdom.
In 2016, their annual revenue was USD 14,400 million.
British Airways has approximately 45,000 employees across the world, a proportion of whom are responsible for global sales. In the past, sales jobs at British Airways were carried out in conventional office space, but with the advent of new technology, it has become more and more possible to work remotely and not be tied to an office.
As time went on, British Airways increasingly discovered that it had offices across the globe, including in Dubai, Singapore, and London, which were being used less and less by its sales teams, but for which the company was still required to pay expensive rental costs.
They turned to Regus for help – and Regus proposed a solution that was both highly convenient and cost-effective. Regus’ appeal to British Airways was that it could provide "pay-as-you-go" flexible workspace, meaning that British Airways would only be paying a fee for office time used by its sales teams, rather than for empty office space which was being used less and less.
In addition, and most crucially, of all the flexible workspace providers British Airways spoke with, Regus by far had the most reach and was the most competitive in terms of location. This was crucial for British Airways, as the company’s global remit requires flexible workspace across the world. Regus was the only flexible workspace operator who could provide this.
Amgad Shaheen, Property Estates Manager, Global Off Airport at British Airways said that the model is 'very economical' and has been 'very well-received within the organization.' He stated that the current set-up – Regus provides a dedicated account manager, monthly reporting, and all leases and contracts in one chosen language – makes the whole process streamlined and efficient.
oneworld is an airline alliance which was founded in 1999 of which British Airways is a member, along with other global brands such as American Airlines, Qantas, and Cathay Pacific. As of October 2017, oneworld is the third-largest global alliance in terms of passengers with more than 527.9 million passengers carried.
Such has been the success of the Regus partnership with British Airways that there is now a possibility that American Airlines may in the future adopt a similar partnership, as is already the case with British Airways’ sister companies IAG and Vueling. It would mean that the number of employees Regus is servicing in these companies alone would number in the tens of thousands worldwide.
